What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a very small piece of metal that is surgically placed into your gums and jaw bone in the area where you’ve lost a tooth. This titanium post functions as an artificial tooth root, allowing our Bonney Lake dentists to restore your smile with a dental implant. If you’re interested in permanently restoring your smile in Bonney Lake, WA, contact Dental Health Group today for a consultation at our office.

Dental implants permanently fuse with your jaw bone. This process locks the implant in place, and ensures it will never move or shift!

Dental Implant Treatment Options

Single-Tooth Implants

Single-tooth dental implants use one dental crown and one dental implant to restore a single missing tooth. This is the most common type of dental implant.

Implant-Supported Bridge

An implant-supported bridge uses two dental implants to restore a row of three or more missing teeth. This is a good option if you’re missing a few teeth in a row, and you’re not a good candidate for a traditional dental bridge.

Full-Mouth Implants

Full-mouth implants restore your entire smile. They use a series of 4-6 implants that are placed into the upper, lower, or both jaws. Then, these implants support a set of permanent or removable implant-supported dentures. Compared to traditional dentures, full-mouth implants last longer, look and feel more natural, and provide superior comfort.

The Dental Implant Treatment Process

Placing your implant

After you’re approved for treatment, you’ll come to our office. Dr. Ni or Dr. Shahi will clean, numb, and prepare your mouth. Then, your dentist will open up the gum and bone tissue, place your implant, and suture the area shut.

Healing and recovery

You’ll be sent home to recover. It takes about two weeks to heal from the initial surgery, but it will take up to six months for your jaw bone to integrate with your dental implant. You’ll come back to our office for a few follow-ups during this time to check on your progress. Dr. Ni or Dr. Shahi will also start designing your dental crown (false tooth) or other implant restoration.

Final implant restoration

Once your dental implant has healed completely, you’ll come back to our office for your final appointment. Dr. Shahi or Dr. Ni will attach your dental crown to your tooth permanently, restoring your smile and your bite. You’ll be sent home to enjoy your new smile.
